Academics and Curriculum

Academics

Our academic curriculum is based on that designed for the Parkland School District. It adheres to Pennsylvania and national academic standards. A full description is available at the Parkland SD website.

Arabic

All of our students from pre-school up have daily Arabic classes with a qualified instructor. The classes are designed to be comfortable and productive for children from both Arabic-speaking and non-Arabic-speaking families. By third grade our students are, with the help of Allah, able to read and compose basic sentences.

Islamic Studies

The main objective of Manarah Islamic Academy is to raise a new generation of dedicated and educated Muslims. In every thing we do we strive to inculcate Islamic values and morals. All of the students have a daily Islamic studies class which includes memorization of the Holy Quran and lessons in all aspects of Islamic life. From the very beginning all of the students learn wudu, salat, and dua. From first grade onwards the students follow the "I Love Islam" series of Islamic textbooks.

Standardized Testing

MALVIA participates in all of the Pennsylvania standardized tests, including the PSSA, TerraNova, and others. Our students on average have scored above the 85th percentile.

Academic Support Services

MALVIA receives instructional support from the Lehigh-Carbon Instructional Unit. Reading and math specialists visit the school regularly to work with those students who need extra assistance.
